In 2023, the Cariboo Regional District Regional Economic & Community Development Officer published a resource guide on Agritourim in the Cariboo-Chilcotin. The guide references the benefits of Agritourism, challenges, things to consider, areas of opportunity, and resources available in the Cariboo Regional District.
Agritourism in British Columbia is defined as a tourist activity, service, or facility accessory to land that is classified as a farm under the Assessment Act. These activities may include any of the following: on farm displays, tours, festivals, farm stands, and/or workshops, tractor or hay rides, petting zoos, dog trials, corn mazes, camping and/or bed and breakfasts. Basically, agritourism is tourism that supports agricultural production. While income generated through Agritourism activities is not considered income for the purposes of classifying land as a farm, agritourism can both supplement a farm’s income by earning an income to market the primary agricultural products a farm produces.
