Empowering Family Health: Online workshop series – Food production and cooking
February 20 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm$25.00
The Empowering Family Health program sponsored by the Growing North Cariboo Society is pleased to announce the production of a series of virtual workshops to support food production initiatives and healthy, sustainable community development in rural communities.
You are invited to participate in the first workshop of the series:
Raising Chickens and Turkeys for the Table
Raising meat birds and turkeys can be tricky and the learning curve is expensive. This workshop will focus on the basics of raising meat breed chickens and turkeys starting from day-old chicks and poults through to the finished product. Topics covered will include housing, brooding, management, feeding, common diseases and conditions, predator control and preparing birds for slaughter.
Workshop Presenter Bio:
Wilma and Keith Watkin, now retired, raised chickens and turkeys for sixteen years, as well as the owner/operators of a poultry abattoir for fifteen. The combination of raising birds, operating the abattoir, and listening to clients’ stories, has given Wilma a lot of experience. “My goal for this workshop is that by sharing our knowledge and experiences with others, they will be successful in raising their own flocks.”
