Empowering Family Health: Online workshop series – Food production and cooking
March 20 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm$15.00
The Empowering Family Health program sponsored by the Growing North Cariboo Society is pleased to announce the production of a series of virtual workshops to support food production initiatives and healthy, sustainable community development in rural communities.
You are invited to participate in the third workshop in the series:
Instant Pot 101– Cooking and Preserving with a Multicooker; Using your garden and local produce
Join us for a 1 ½ hour workshop and learn some of the tricks of using a multicooker to cook your meals quickly, using produce from your garden and cheaper cuts of meat. We will also cover the use of the multicooker to preserve garden produce in flavorful and healthy sauces, soups and stews that can be popped into the freezer. If you are afraid of the prospect of using a multicooker because it is a pressure cooker, or if you have only used it for cooking rice, this course is for you. Learn new ways to use the cooker, discover how to set it and forget it, and use it to cook excellent meals quickly. Recipes will be provided in a digital format for the course.
Workshop Presenter Bio:
Lynda Atkinson, M.Ed, teacher and organizer, is part of the family that owns Sisters Creek Ranch where they raise Simmental cattle and standardbred horses as well as put up hay and grow large gardens. The ranch is home to five families, most of them related to the Ekelund family. They have owned the ranch for over 30 years, and their gardens provide most of the vegetables they need. Lynda has put on workshops on seed saving, garden planning and harvesting as well as horse husbandry and starting out with standardbreds. She has been using an Instant Pot for a number of years and finds it a very useful and economical cooker to make recipes like “to die for ribs”, the best pumpkin bars, and the tenderest roasts and chicken dinners.
“Instant Pot” is a registered brand name of a Canadian invented pressure multicooker. The instant Pot will be demonstrated in this workshop, however there are other multicookers available that can be used for these recipes and preserving processes.
